How to Size a Sheet Metal Folder
Use your steel thickness to shortlist a manual, electric or hydraulic folder. Then choose the working width for your longest fold.
Start with the finished part
A sheet metal folder clamps the sheet along the fold line. The folding beam lifts the exposed edge to form a flange. For a part with several bends, check how each formed edge will clear the clamp and beam during the next fold, and how the finished part will be removed.
Beam folding is worth evaluating for straight edges on duct panels, flashing and covers. For profiles that require punch-and-die forming, compare the process with a press brake using the same part drawing.
Manual, electric or hydraulic?
Use these typical steel thicknesses to shortlist a drive type in the WinYing sheet metal folding machine range. Confirm the capacity for your material grade and required fold length before ordering.

Manual Folding
Typical for mild steel sheet. Consider for occasional straight folds and general workshop use.

Electric Folding
Typical for steel sheet. Consider for recurring folds on duct panels and straight profiles.

Hydraulic Folding
Typical for steel sheet. Consider for thicker sheets and repeated production work.

Rectangular duct panel
For a rectangular duct production line, include any existing seam pocket or flange in the drawing. Check how it will sit on the supports and pass the clamp during folding.
Cover with a return flange
